A $1 million upgrade of Fortitude Valley's mall has created a vibrant outdoor environment. Start at the city end of Brunswick Street, with the Brunswick Mall, between Wickham Street and Ann Street. Here you'll find the McWhirters building with its food hall and shops, and plenty of cafes and restaurants to try.

Fortitude Valley is also home to Brisbane's Chinatown, centred around the Chinatown Mall (parallel to the Brunswick Street Mall, on the city side). The ornate Chinese arch is the portal into a microcosm of Asia in the heart of Brisbane.

Fortitude Valley is the home of many of Brisbane's live band venues such as the Tivoli and the Arena.

Moving up Brunswick Street towards New Farm, the old brewery complex has been converted into a smart apartments and shopping precinct, almost opposite that other Fortitude Valley landmark, Dooley's Irish pub.
